I know, I know, posting the whole page, but look at this art
“Sonic’s dad really isn’t a Mobian anymore. My dad simply
That’s pretty chilling. Like… He straight up murdered his dad. O_O
Two pages later, he’s shaking and crying- but not because Jules did anything. He just said ‘if you killed me, Sonic would be very upset.’
That totally set Scourge off- to have his knees buckle, his eyes tear up, and he jumped out the window after saying ‘empty words- you’re just like my old man after all.’
Clearly, there was some serious issues with his dad before he (supposedly) killed him.
I have that issue, and it’s easily one of my favorite side stories thus far… The artwork really conveys the emotions well, and the short interaction Scourge had with Jules was so “Whoa…” That I kinda wanted to see an aftermath sometime later…
I think this was one of the only stories before Lockdown that we got anything on Scourge besides the fact that ‘he’s a dick that wants power’. I mean, think about it- every story before was him just against Sonic, which of course wasn’t going to be a whole lot of them philosophizing, they’re just going to beat on each other. Scourge liked screwing with his mind, but that was purely for screwing with him- we already know he’s a jerk, that doesn’t tell us much.
This wasn’t against Sonic, or any of the freedom fighters- this was him trying to hit Sonic by really hitting below the belt. He’d impersonated Sonic before, but that was for personal gain- like when he was trying to steal the Master Emerald. This was going after what he knew Sonic loved- after all, if his relationship with his dad wasn’t the best, wouldn’t it make sense Sonic really loved his dad?
Unless I’m missing something, this was also pretty much the only backstory we got for Scourge- a bit vague, but enough. As for Scourge and his dad, as I’m kind of curious about that now? Well, look at that first panel. His dad’s talking to all the people, big and important with cape and a smile, while Scourge (or still Anti-Sonic at that point, or just Sonic. Whatever, calling him Scourge for simplicity purposes) is just tugging on his cape, clearly being ignored.
That one image is about all we get, but a picture shows a thousand words, right?
